An urgent and powerful play by debbie tucker green.
In 2008, the Royal Court premiered random by award-winning playwright debbie tucker green to huge critical acclaim. In 2010 they brought theatre direct to the people with Theatre Local, staging the play in a vacant unit within the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre. Now, following a national tour, random comes to the heart of South East London.
Unwelcome visitors. Unwelcome news.
A family wake up to a normal day. By lunchtime one random act has changed everything.
“It whisks the audience from laughter to comfortless sorrow in less than an hour. A remarkable piece blessed with empathy, substance, a palpable generosity of spirit”
Daily Telegraph
“Extraordinary. Heartbreakingly topical. I was completely spellbound. You have to see it. The more people that see it, the better” BBC Radio 4
Olivier Award winner debbie tucker green's powerful, poetic and often comic play doesn't waste a word as it tells of a West Indian family who believe you should 'never trouble trouble until trouble troubles you', only to find it sitting in their front room, in the shape of three policemen bearing bad news.
Seroca Davis delivers a stunning performance, embodying 14 different characters and telling the story so vividly that the 50 minute piece packs a genuine punch.
