'No other collection of musicians has been gathered from such diverse backgrounds, and the effect is explosive'
The Observer
Discover the pulse of Carnival from South America and the Caribbean, fuelled by West African and Cuban rhythms, with echoes of urban South African townships and the rural music of Eastern Europe, mystical North Indian classical ragas, traditional song from Bangladesh and ancient Chinese show-pieces in an exhilarating celebration of liberation and multiculturalism.
Grand Union Orchestra is the acknowledged pioneer of cross-cultural music-making in Britain, bringing together world-class musicians and singers from across the jazz and world music spectrum.
Led by visionary composer and pianist Tony Haynes, the music of Grand Union is based around the experience of the performers themselves – many of whom have been or are descended from migrants or refugees.
Can't Chain Up Me Mind brings together an extraordinary selection of musicians from a wide variety of musical cultures, all leading experts in their field. The show also features senior members of the Grand Union Youth Orchestra who will perform alongside their mentors in an explosive and energy filled set as part of the evening.
