Our Spring 2018 programme is now fully booked.

Watch this space for details of our new artistic policy, coming early 2018.

The Albany has a varied programme, presenting Theatre, Dance, Live Music, Spoken Word, Visual Arts and more. Our aim is to create an artistic and community resource where diversity and creativity flourish and to be home to high quality creative experiences relating to the communities we serve.

We do accept unsolicited proposals however, as we are a very small team, we are unable to meet everybody in person to discuss their work and prefer a written proposal in the first instance. We rarely book work by artists or companies that we have not seen first-hand, so if you’d like to be considered for the Albany programme often the first step is to get in touch and send us an invite. We try to see as much work as possible.

We would also encourage you to look through our website and archives to get a feel for the type of work we are interested in programming. We are particularly interested in work which is creatively and culturally diverse, and work which is directly related to the community or history of Deptford. We are always keen to hear from artists who live in the boroughs of Lewisham and Southwark, though being a local is by no means a requirement! We also programme Canada Water Culture Space. For more information about this venue please visit the website.

If you’d like to discuss a proposal please email us at Your proposal should include the following information –

  • A brief summary of the work (your idea, your target audience, at what stage of development the work is at etc.)
  • When you would like to showcase the work (please bear in mind that we tend to programme 6-8 months in advance, but this does depend on the season and scale of the work. Smaller scale/studio work that maybe doesn’t require so much of our support can be dropped in as late as 4 months in advance. Work requiring our consideration for support or partnership should aim to have 12 months notice in advance of finding project funding)
  • If you are seeking, or in receipt of, any funding
  • If you have presented the work elsewhere in London or plan to present it anywhere else in London
  • Background about yourself including brief, relevant biographical information and details of where and when you have presented work previously, any references and/or press coverage if possible
  • Details of any mailing list, social media activity, or other marketing activity you’d be able to undertake to help promote your work if successful.

There are also opportunities for you to perform at our regular events. Cabaret Playroom has an open submission process and Chill Pill has an open mic segment –  further details can be found on the event pages on our website. We also occasionally have call outs for performers, volunteers and companies as part of our partner events – if you’d like to hear about these opportunities please sign up to our mailing list or follow us on twitter (@TheAlbanySE8)

You can also hire our spaces for rehearsal and performance. Further details can be found on the ‘hire us’ section of the website.

Are you interested in exhibiting at the Albany?

The walls in our café can be used as an exhibition space. Our café is a public space, so before contacting us please consider whether your work is suitable for all ages – we are unable to exhibit age-sensitive materials. Exhibitions should also be in keeping with our general programming ethos, further details of which can be found above.

Exhibitors must be able to comply with certain conditions regarding installation and presentation. Exhibitors must take responsibility for insuring the work and must be able to install and de-install the work themselves. For further details please email and we will send you an exhibition enquiry form to complete.

Are you interested in rehearsal space at the Albany?

On average we give away over £45,000 worth of free rehearsal space each year (costing based on our commercial rates). This rehearsal space is primarily available to artists and companies who are making work to be presented at the venue, and also to artists and companies working on long term projects with us.

In order to be eligible for rehearsal space at the venue, you should first send us a proposal for your event, guidelines for which are above.

Though we occasionally offer space to local artists and companies who are making work which will not feature at the Albany, as a way of contributing to the rich artistic community working in Lewisham and Southwark, opportunities of this nature are rare as we have to prioritise our artistic partners. If you would like to discuss use of rehearsal space without supplying an event proposal, please include details of your links to the local area, how your project may benefit the local community and what level of acknowledgment the Albany might receive in return for our support.

You can also hire our spaces for rehearsal and performance. Further details can be found on the ‘hire us’ section of the website.
