On the rooftop of Deptford Lounge as night falls, Inua Ellams conjures the violence of a city not unlike London and imagines a more beautiful world beyond it. A thrilling, site-specific piece of spoken word theatre with rhythmic poetry and a live soundtrack.
'A scorching piece of spoken-word performance'
- The Guardian
In a world where tower blocks are stone mountains and city walls are urban tapestries retelling epic fights, Michael keeps away from the warring tribes until a passerby helps him out of a tight situation.
Instantly, he is pulled into the gang culture he has tried to escape. The city spirals out of control as battle lines are drawn but will Michael succeed in ending the war?
This event takes place outside, on the rooftop of Deptford Lounge.
Deptford Lounge can be found at 9 Giffin Street, just 2 minutes walk from the Albany.
‘Ellams’ poetry gleams with dusty, worn, deeply original beauty...he remains such wonderfully generous company to keep on stage.’
