About the event
Join Goldsmiths researchers and local organisations for a day of interactive experiences exploring migration past, present and future.
Through food, performance, workshops, and storytelling, challenge assumptions and celebrate the resilience, creativity, and contributions of migrant communities.
Curated in collaboration with the Migration Museum’s Community Curators and featuring researchers from Goldsmiths’ new Migrant Futures Institute alongside a brilliant range of cultural and community partners, this free festival invites you to get involved.
Through sampling delicious foods, multilingual mural-making, refugee-led exhibitions, interactive theatre and community singing, we’ll explore how migration shapes our everyday lives, what stories get told and by whom, and how creative responses can help us imagine more just and inclusive futures.

Recipes for resilience
Albany Café, 11am - 4pm
An interactive stall exploring the Indigenous origins of everyday foods. Sample cornbread, a dish common to two distant cultures linked by the history of the ‘Choctaw Gift’ to the people of Ireland during the Great Hunger, and learn more about how Indigenous ingredients have become part of global cuisines. Hosted by Dr Shelley Saggar & Dr Padraig Kirwan from the 'Sharing Lands: Reconciliation, Recognition & Reciprocity' project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
HEY SALAM HOLA BWAKEYE
Albany Café, 11am - 5pm
Breadwinners “Creative Youth Voices” programme presents a compelling display of images and recorded narratives from young refugees, offering an immersive insight into their lives beyond the headlines. This co-created exhibition challenges negative narratives and offers a joyful counter-image, capturing our co-creators with power and respect; qualities rarely afforded to refugee stories. Come in and meet our community!
Mapping shared experiences and differences
Albany Café, 11am - 5pm
Diversity is what makes Lewisham a vibrant hub of creativity. For this interactive activity, Community Curators and The Migration Museum join together to encourage festival attendees to express their thoughts on the day’s activities through interactive displays and conversation
Marketplace
Albany Café, 11am-5pm
A marketplace of local organisations whose work touches on migration, including the Migration Museum and Refugees at Home, will take place throughout the day.
