From the Lounge

By David Steans

David Steans’ project revolves around a book of experimental short horror stories, written by the artist.  The book collects new, revised and previously unpublished stories, some of which draw inspiration from the context of the festival, the venue and Deptford itself. Visitors can borrow or browse the book at their leisure in the library. There will be daily readings by Deptford Lounge staff and two performances that relate to one of the stories, ‘Foul Shot’, about an allegedly haunted basketball court.

A paperback collection of horror stories, available to browse, read or borrow anytime during library opening hours; please inquire at reception desk.

WARNING: the book contains material that some may find offensive/upsetting. Reader and visitor discretion is advised.

Friday 21 – Sunday 30 September. For All Ages. FREE.

Exhibition: Pandora’s (Higher) Orders

By Zara Ramsey

Ramsey has created a macro charm bracelet responding to symbolic thought as a driver of culture. Bronze flip flop ‘charms’ trailed like footprints left by our early human ancestors makes a subtle suggestion to our timeless trait as storytellers. The work offers out a foot for connection through our bigger human story.

Exhibition: Brave Imagination

An exhibition by a group of  young artists from all over the world who are studying English at Lewisham Southwark College, facilitated by local artist and educator Michelle Butcher. The students were invited by the Old Royal Naval College to explore and respond to the symbolism, drama and history illustrated in the Painted Hall, Greenwich.

The students were invited to create artwork in response to James Thornhill’s English Baroque masterpiece. The students had little experience of making art before these workshops. We think they’ve produced some stunning expressions of their personalities, their journeys and their hopes.

Saturday 1 September – Saturday 29 September. For All Ages. FREE
