What’s Involved:
Created by Brazilian artist Flora Baltz as part of the Albany’s Pizza & Pitches, this project invites you to take part in two creative workshops at the Albany in Deptford. These workshops will focus on wellbeing, movement, and making crafts. Together, we will explore themes like home, migration, and belonging, all while enjoying fun, hands-on activities that spark creativity and connection.
Workshop Dates:
Monday, February 17th – From 12pm to 2:30pm
Saturday, March 1st – From 12pm to 2:30pm
(Exact times tbc)
Part of the materials and artwork created during the workshops will be part of an exciting public art installation at the Albany! We will also capture the process in a mini documentary, sharing the stories and experiences of the participants.
Installation Opening: Monday, March 17th (Details to follow)
Why Participate?
- Engage with well-being practices: In the workshops, the facilitator will share some well-being practices that include breathing exercises and mobilisation, helping us feel more balanced and connected in our daily lives.
- Share your stories: This project offers a dedicated space to reflect on and share your stories and the meanings of home to you.
- Connect with others: Meet and collaborate with other members of the Latin American community in South East London.
- Create together: Through movement, art, and conversations, we’ll create a collective experience that honors our shared histories creatively.
- All abilities welcome: No prior experience with art or movement is required! This space is for everyone, regardless of artistic background or skill level.
- Be part of a public project: Your work will contribute to a public art installation that celebrates our plural stories.
Why this Project was created:
South East London is home to a vibrant Latin American community. However, this community often remains underrepresented in mainstream arts and wellbeing activities. Islands of the South aims to create a space where these important stories and experiences can be shared and celebrated. Through art, movement, and exchange, this project seeks to honor the journeys of Latin American residents in London, nurturing a sense of presence, wellbeing and connection.
How to Join:
- This project is open to a small group of 6 participants, and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority will be given to those who can attend both sessions to help maintain continuity.
- We’ll have a waitlist, and if a spot opens up, we’ll reach out to those on it with more details!
If you’re interested in joining, please fill out the form
We have a budget to help with transportation costs – Let us know if that is something that you will need.
