About the garden

The garden is a space for food growing, a home for wildlife and a chance to step away from our busy lives and reconnect with nature.

Our Come ’n’ Grow gardening club is a chance to get your hands in the dirt and discover the joys of growing your own food, from potatoes to pumpkins – or pea shoots to sow and take home and nurture on your windowsill. We regularly use fruits and veggies home-grown in the garden as ingredients in our café.

There are also ‘untidy’ areas of the garden left to create habitat for bugs and other invertebrates, wildflowers for pollinators and two ponds providing a home for tadpoles and frogs.

Our wild play area is a space for children to get messy, we regularly run workshops with our friends at Froglife and the Butterfly Project, and we’ve even hosted outdoor parties and festivals to bring the whole community together.

You’re always welcome to come and take a breather in the garden – step away from your desk, relax and reconnect with nature, whilst you enjoy a drink or a snack from the café.

The Albany Garden is a really special place. It’s made me feel more at home in an often isolating city, enjoying simple pleasures with others, and giving me the opportunity to get my hands dirty and connect to green and growing things when I’m sick of all the grey and concrete around me.
