Lewisham Sound System Trail comprised a trail of sound systems placed in venues and outdoor locations across Deptford and New Cross, celebrating Lewisham’s role in sound system culture and the importance of the sound system as a sanctuary for diverse communities such as Lewisham’s GM, LGBTQI+, DIY, Punk and global communities. 

Featuring Turner Prize Nominees Black Obsidian Sound System, Unit 137 and WWFM & Lemon Lounge, Lewisham Sound System Trail spanned an array of musical styles reflecting our diverse community from earth shaking dub to roots reggae, global sounds, modern bass, electronic and dance music.

DQSD: Deptford Queer Soundsystem Day (at Master Shipwright’s House)

London’s foremost underground LGBTQ+ crews came together on the grounds of Master Shipwright’s House, Lewisham’s most beautiful private residence, for a day of free music. Presented in partnership with the Albany, Love Music Hate Racism and R3 Soundsystem, DQSD celebrated queer sound system collectives and South London’s unique cultural heritage.

Line-up included: OK Williams, Black Obsidian Soundsystem, Gideon, Hannah Holland, Shay Malt, Deptford Northern Soul Club & Sugarbear.

Unit 137 (in Deptford Market Yard)

Unit 137 is a sound system based in Lewisham, London. Unit 137 has operated successfully as a sound, record label and event production crew since 2012 and will be playing roots, dub, jungle, dubstep, grime and more.

Line-up included: Hylu, Ed West, Sleepy Time Ghost, Deemas J, Fea, Phoebs x Anja Ngozi, Kosher, Shumba Youth, Yuis, Alchemy All Stars & Daisy Roots Movement. Supported by U+I.

WWFM x Lemon Lounge (at Creekside Artworks)

WWFM is a freeform internet radio service that highlights “underground music, culture and stories from around the globe.” Founded in 2016 by DJ Gilles Peterson, the platform features a rotating roster of international radio DJs and programming. Lemon Lounge are a South London sound system & community sharing music and running workshops + talks at events across London and the UK.

Line-up included: D’Oxman, Vandorta & Lemon Lounge Residents.

Dennis Bovell and Friends (in the Albany Garden)

A celebration of Reggae Roots and culture, curated by reggae legend Dennis Bovell MBE, and presented by Soho Radio.

Line-up included: Gladdywax Sound System, Dub Vendor All Stars & Pappa Face.
