About the event:

Artist Jen Cable and Maria Gonzalez lead a family session using fairy tales, art, and storytelling to explore gender roles.

How do traditional stories shape the way we see the world and the roles women play within it? Join artist Jen Cable and SHEROES Collective founder Maria Gonzalez for an interactive family session exploring classic fairy tales and contemporary retellings through art, storytelling and discussion.

Using beloved stories such as Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel, the session will encourage children and adults to think critically about gender roles, representation and storytelling. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about Jen Cable’s artwork and creative practice.  This is designed to be a relaxed and enjoyable family event that encourages curiosity, imagination and conversation across generations.

What to Expect:

  • Storytelling and shared reading
  • Discussion of traditional and modern story versions
  • Introduction to Jen Cable’s artworks
  • Creative thinking and family conversation
  • An informal and welcoming atmosphere

This session is not intended as a lecture, parenting workshop, or discussion of violence or abuse. While connected to the wider themes of the exhibition, all activities and discussions will remain age-appropriate and family-friendly.
