Think drag meets detention, where doodling, fidgeting, daydreaming, and challenging the norms of how learning should happen are encouraged.

At these events, a collective of master’s students will facilitate sessions centred on Queer Feminist World Building. The aim is to crack open the dusty vault of academia, sharing key concepts and theories with people who might feel like education wasn’t for them. With conversations that aren’t just fascinating – but fuel for liberation, community-building and collective joy! Each ‘class’ will be followed by an ‘assembly’ platforming the talents of local queer musicians, artists and performers, so we can learn and dance together.

Gay School is for those who feel marginalised or excluded from traditional educational and cultural spaces. People of all identities, backgrounds, and levels of knowledge are welcome – you don’t have to be queer, this theory is for everyone! Gay School are especially committed to reaching those who may not have access to academic resources or feel comfortable in mainstream environments.

This event has been programmed as part of the Albany’s Pizza and Pitches programme, which invites local residents to pitch a creative idea to win £1000 of funding and support from the Albany team to make it happen.
