The Albany is home to Fun Palaces, an ongoing campaign for cultural democracy, with an annual weekend of action every October. There is one month to go until the 2018 Fun Palaces weekend and we’re looking for a community group to take over Deptford Lounge with a Fun Palace on Sunday 7 October.

Fun Palaces use the combination of arts, craft, science, tech, digital, heritage and sports activities, led by local people for local people, sharing their own passions and skills, as a catalyst for community-led transformation, with active participation for all ages. Find out more via this link.

Silver Sunday

As well as the general Fun Palace theme of arts and science, we are looking for something that could be part of Silver Sunday at Deptford Lounge, which is a day of activities for older people (ages 60+). It can be as small or large scale as you like, and we don’t mind if it’s led by a group of 2 or a group of 20!

What we can offer

We can give you the space for free (and can be quite flexible about which space/s), we can support with planning in the lead-up and event management on the day, and we can give your group £200 to cover materials.

If you’d like some tips on how to make your own Fun Palace, the website is full of brilliant ideas, as well as useful FREE tools such as posters, logos, press releases and risk assessments. Check them out via this link.

How to apply

If you’re interested, please email linda.bloomfield@thealbany.org.uk and include the following information:

  • Who you are and why you’d like to get involved. If you’re an individual it would also be good to know who else you’re going to approach to make it with you.
  • A few of your initial ideas – these can be rough at this stage!

If you have any questions or any access concerns please get in touch by emailing linda.bloomfield@thealbany.org.uk or calling Linda on 020 8692 4446 ext 266

There is no deadline for applications, ideas will be considered on a first come, first served basis and we will remove this post from the website when we have confirmed the group. Good luck!
